Paperday – Privacy Notice

1. Who is responsible

Paperday is published by Cofy UG (haftungsbeschränkt), which is the controller under the GDPR for the processing described here.

Cofy UG (haftungsbeschränkt)
Gerhardstr. 10
22926 Ahrensburg, Germany
Email: mail@cofy.coffee

This notice covers the Paperday app for Android, iPhone and iPad.

2. In short

Paperday works entirely on your phone: we never receive your photos, and there is no account.

3. Camera and pictures from your gallery

Paperday uses the camera and pictures you pick only to find and cut out your prints, on your phone; the whole picture is never stored.

Legal basis: providing the function you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

4. Your photos and albums inside Paperday

Everything you save in Paperday stays in the app's private storage on your phone, where other apps cannot read it and we cannot reach it.

What Contents
Saved prints Each print twice: as cut out, and a slightly brightened version (PNG files)
Albums The names you give them and when you created them
Photo list Per print: when you saved it, its size in pixels, its album, whether you saved a copy to your gallery
App settings Your language choice, whether you have seen the introduction, whether Paperday is unlocked and since when, how many photos you have saved

The saved prints contain no location, capture time or device details, because Paperday writes them anew from the image pixels.

Your photos and albums are left out of Android's online backup to Google Drive and of iCloud backup. When you set up a new Android phone (Android 12 and later), a direct phone-to-phone transfer can copy them to the new phone.

Legal basis: storing these files on your phone is strictly necessary for the app you asked to use (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG; Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

5. Saving to your gallery and sharing

Copies you save to your gallery or share are outside Paperday, and deleting a photo in Paperday does not remove them.

Legal basis: you start each save and share yourself (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

6. Counter of saved photos

So that your free photos do not start over when Paperday is installed again, the number of photos you have saved is also kept outside the app; it is only that number, never photos.

We never receive this number.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the free allowance fair (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and the terms of the free allowance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); storing the number on your phone is necessary for this (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG).

7. One-time purchase

The one-time unlock is sold through Google Play or the App Store, which handle your payment and account data as separate controllers; we never see your payment details.

Legal basis: our legal duty to keep accounting and tax records (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR with § 147 AO and § 257 HGB).

8. Permissions, tracking and logs

Paperday asks only for the camera and, on iPhone and iPad, for permission to add photos to Photos; both are requested when first needed. It does not use your location, microphone or contacts, and does not read your gallery.

You do not have to grant any access: without the camera you can still load pictures from your gallery, and Paperday asks you for no other data.

Paperday has no analytics or crash-reporting tool and uses no advertising ID. On Android it has no internet access at all; on iPhone and iPad it makes no connections of its own. Technical messages (such as counts and error codes) go to your phone's system log only.

Google Play and the App Store give us anonymised statistics, such as installs by country. If you have allowed your phone to share diagnostics with app developers, they also pass on crash reports with the device model and system version. We cannot identify you from any of this. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping Paperday working (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

9. Email

We process your email address and message only when you write to us, and we use what you send to answer your request. Our email provider is in Switzerland, a country with an EU adequacy decision. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR when your request relates to your purchase or use of the app, otherwise our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete messages once they are no longer needed, unless the law requires us to keep them.

10. How long data is kept and how to delete it

You control almost everything yourself: data on your phone stays until you delete it or uninstall Paperday.

Data Kept until How to delete it
Photos and albums in Paperday You delete them Delete photos or albums in the app, use Settings > Delete all photos in Paperday, or uninstall the app
Copies in your gallery or Photos You delete them In your gallery or Photos app
Counter of saved photos See section 6 Android: uninstall with backup off, or delete the phone's Google backup; iPhone and iPad: erase the device
Unlock status You uninstall Paperday Uninstall; you can restore the purchase at any time
Order records Up to 10 years (legal duty) Deleted after the retention period
Emails No longer needed Ask us to delete them

On Android, the storage button in App info opens Paperday's Settings instead of clearing all app data, so that the counter of saved photos is not reset. "Delete all photos in Paperday" frees the space; it keeps the counter and the unlock.

11. Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20); an informal email to mail@cofy.coffee is enough.

Right to object: where we process data based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR).

Most Paperday data exists only on your phone, where we cannot see or change it; you can view and delete it in the app at any time.

You can also complain to a data protection authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Unabhängiges Landeszentrum für Datenschutz Schleswig-Holstein (ULD), Holstenstraße 98, 24103 Kiel, Germany, mail@datenschutzzentrum.de.
